KENNETH WROBERTS
ARTIST STATEMENT/ BIOGRAPHY

Plein air artist, Kenneth Roberts has been painting the landscapes of Southern California for over twenty years. A San Diego native, Ken spent his youth hiking and camping in the desert and mountains of San Diego’s back country. His desire to paint and his love for the outdoors has inspired him to become a plein air artist. Ken has always appreciated the works of the French impressionist, especially Pissarro, Monet and Sisley.

"By painting on location, you can accurately capture the contrast of light and shade and the abstact patterns you see in nature. It's rewarding for me when someone recognizes a scene that I have painted and shares their experience of that place. I thoroughly enjoy the process of plein air painting-to be outside in the elements, to endure the wind, the heat or the cold, and encompass everything onto the canvas. Over the years I've learned that it was more important to capture the essence of a scene than an exact copy of nature; the constant challenge to create a feeling of light and atmosphere."
